Robert William "Bob" Barker was born on December 12, 1923, in Darrington, Washington, and spent much of his youth on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. After serving in the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II, Barker began his broadcasting career in radio, eventually moving to California to host "The Bob Barker Show." His television career took off in 1956 when he began hosting "Truth or Consequences," a role he held for 18 years.

Barker's most iconic role began in 1972 when he took over as host of "The Price Is Right," which became the longest-running game show in North American television history. In 1994, he established the DJ&T Foundation, named after his late wife Dorothy Jo Gideon and his mother Matilda, which has contributed millions to animal-neutering programs and animal rescue facilities. He also made significant donations to organizations like PETA, which named its West Coast headquarters the "Bob Barker Building" after his $2.5 million contribution.

Barker retired from "The Price Is Right" in June 2007, marking the end of a remarkable 50-year career in television. He made a few guest appearances on the show in subsequent years, with his last surprise appearance on April 1, 2015. In his later years, Barker maintained a private life.
