What Happened to Daredevil: Born Again (TV Series)?

The journey of 'Daredevil: Born Again' has been marked by significant anticipation and a notable mid-production pivot. Initially announced in July 2022 as an 18-episode series for Disney+, it was conceived as a soft reboot with a lighter, more episodic tone, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached as head writers. Filming commenced in March 2023, but production was halted in June due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike.

By late September 2023, Marvel Studios decided to undertake a comprehensive creative overhaul. This decision stemmed from a desire to align the series more closely with the darker, serialized tone and continuity of the original Netflix 'Daredevil' series, a direction that the initial production was reportedly not achieving. Corman and Ord were released, and Dario Scardapane was brought in as the new showrunner, alongside Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as lead directors. This overhaul led to a re-evaluation of the existing footage and the writing of new episodes, including a new pilot, to better integrate the series with its predecessor.

A key consequence of the creative overhaul was the decision to split the original 18-episode order into two distinct seasons. The first season, consisting of nine episodes, resumed filming in January 2024 and wrapped in April 2024. It premiered on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, with its first two episodes, concluding its run on April 15, 2025. The series saw the return of core cast members Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher. Ayelet Zurer also reprised her role as Vanessa Fisk, replacing Sandrine Holt who had initially filmed scenes.

Following the successful reception of its first season, 'Daredevil: Born Again' continued its production trajectory. Filming for the second season, comprising eight episodes, took place from February to July 2025. This season is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, and will feature the anticipated return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, further solidifying its connection to the 'Defenders' universe. Additionally, an untitled Punisher television special starring Jon Bernthal is also slated for release in 2026.

As of March 18, 2026, the series' future remains robust. Marvel Studios officially greenlit a third season in September 2025, with production targeted to begin in Spring 2026, specifically from March to July 2026. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has hinted that Season 3 might explore a more 'street-level' narrative, moving away from the political focus of Kingpin's mayoral campaign seen in earlier seasons. An official companion podcast for 'Daredevil: Born Again' also launched on March 17, 2026, a week before the second season's debut.
