What Happened to Daredevil (TV series)?

The journey of the 'Daredevil' television series has been one of critical highs, unexpected cancellation, and a triumphant, albeit creatively challenging, revival. The original 'Marvel's Daredevil' premiered on Netflix on April 10, 2015, as the first of several interconnected Marvel Television series, including 'Jessica Jones,' 'Luke Cage,' and 'Iron Fist,' culminating in 'The Defenders' miniseries in 2017. Starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, the show was lauded for its mature tone, complex characters, and visceral action, earning a dedicated fanbase.

Despite its critical success and plans for future seasons, Netflix cancelled 'Daredevil' on November 29, 2018, along with the other Marvel Netflix shows. This decision was largely attributed to Disney's impending launch of its own streaming service, Disney+, and the consolidation of its Marvel properties. Fans were left disappointed, uncertain if they would ever see Cox's portrayal of the Man Without Fear again. However, the characters began to reappear in Marvel Studios productions, with Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock making a cameo in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (2021) and a more substantial role in 'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law' (2022). However, the production faced significant challenges, undergoing a creative overhaul in late September 2023 after filming had begun, leading to new writers and directors being brought in to rework the series and connect it more directly to the Netflix continuity.

'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 premiered on Disney+ on March 24, 2026, and concluded its eight-episode run on May 5, 2026. This season saw the return of more original cast members, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, alongside Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. Filming for Season 3 commenced in March 2026 in New York City and successfully wrapped in July 2026. This season is expected to draw inspiration from the 'Devil in Cell Block D' comic storyline and will see the return of additional 'Defenders' characters like Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones), as well as Élodie Yung as Elektra. Showrunner Dario Scardapane has indicated a desire for a 'more stripped-down, back-to-basics' approach for Matt Murdock.
