What Happened to Deadsy?

Deadsy emerged from Los Angeles in 1995, founded by Elijah Blue Allman, son of Cher and Gregg Allman. The band quickly developed a unique "undercore" sound, blending gothic rock, industrial elements, and synth-rock with a theatrical image where each member represented a distinct entity and color.

Their early years were marked by label struggles; a self-titled debut album recorded for Sire Records in 1996 was shelved and ultimately unreleased, leading to the band being dropped in 1999. However, Deadsy gained significant traction after signing with Jonathan Davis' (Korn) Elementree Records. Their official debut, "Commencement," was released in 2002, featuring the single "The Key to Gramercy Park" and a cover of Rush's "Tom Sawyer." The album's success led to extensive touring, including appearances on the Family Values Tour.

In 2006, Deadsy released their second major label album, "Phantasmagore," through Immortal Records/Elementree, which also saw them return to the Family Values Tour and perform at Lollapalooza. Despite this activity, the band announced an indefinite hiatus in early 2007, with members pursuing other projects.

The band began a reformation period around 2017, playing a semi-acoustic show at San Quentin State Prison in 2018. In July 2020, Deadsy announced their third album, "Subterfugue," was slated for an early 2021 release, alongside a remastered digital and vinyl reissue of "Phantasmagore." However, "Subterfugue" has yet to materialize, and the "Phantasmagore" vinyl reissue faced significant delays and controversy, with frontman Elijah Blue Allman issuing an apology to fans in January 2024 for unfulfilled pre-orders.

In February 2024, Deadsy released "(study for a portrait of) Napolean In Rags," their first new single in 18 years, signaling a potential return. However, the band entered a second hiatus in 2024. Concurrently, Elijah Blue Allman has been embroiled in highly publicized personal issues. In 2024, he settled a conservatorship dispute with his mother, Cher, who cited concerns over his substance abuse and mental health. In June 2025, Allman was reportedly hospitalized following an overdose. More recently, in February and March 2026, Allman was arrested in New Hampshire on charges including trespassing, assault, and burglary. Cher filed a second request for conservatorship in April 2026, with legal proceedings ongoing as of July 2026 regarding jurisdiction. Despite these challenges, Deadsy's 2002 album "Commencement" received its first-ever vinyl release in February 2026 through Enjoy The Ride Records.
