What Happened to Edward Jacob "Jake" Lang?

Edward Jacob "Jake" Lang, born in 1995 or 1996, rose to prominence as a far-right activist and influencer, primarily due to his involvement in the January 6, 2021, United States Capitol attack. Lang was accused of assaulting law enforcement officers with a baseball bat and riot shield during the riot and was subsequently indicted on 11 counts, leading to his arrest on January 16, 2021. He spent approximately four years in federal prison awaiting trial, during which he claimed to have endured hundreds of days in solitary confinement and attempted to organize a national militia called the North American Patriot and Liberty Militia (NAPALM) from his jail cell.

A significant turning point in Lang's legal saga occurred on January 20, 2025, when he received a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, along with approximately 1,500 other individuals involved in the January 6th events. This pardon dismissed his charges and led to his release from the D.C. jail. Following his release, Lang quickly re-engaged in political activism, announcing his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in Florida in March 2025, aiming for the Republican primary in August 2026. In February 2026, he was charged with felony property damage in Minnesota for allegedly destroying a $6,000 anti-ICE ice sculpture at the State Capitol, an act he claimed was protected artistic expression. He is due for trial in Minneapolis on this charge in July 2026. In March 2026, he was issued a summons for failing to appear in court in Washington, D.C., regarding threatening comments made to a Capitol Police officer at a January 6 fifth-anniversary event. On June 3, Lang was arrested by Frisco police in Texas on a criminal trespass warrant, stemming from a June 2 incident where he filmed himself breaking into Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium during a protest related to the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf in April 2025. Just days later, on June 9, 2026, Lang was arrested again, this time at a Dallas airport while aboard an airplane, on charges of making terroristic threats. These threats were allegedly made in connection with the Karmelo Anthony murder trial, where Anthony was found guilty of stabbing Metcalf. Lang's representative stated he threatened to "take care of it himself" if Anthony was not found guilty. As of June 10, 2026, Lang is being held in Dallas County Jail with a bond set at $1 million for the terroristic threats charge. He remains a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Florida.
