What Happened to Hunter's Moon (Dr. Yehya Badr)?

Dr. Yehya Badr, known as Hunter's Moon, was introduced in July 2021 in Moon Knight (Vol. 9) #1 by Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio as the second Fist of Khonshu. Initially a rigid and devout rival to Marc Spector, Badr believed Spector had strayed from Khonshu's true purpose, particularly by protecting vampires within his Midnight Mission. Despite their initial conflict, Hunter's Moon eventually became a vital ally and an integral part of Marc Spector's Midnight Mission, a sanctuary for those who travel at night.

The landscape of Moon Knight's world dramatically shifted in December 2023 when Marc Spector sacrificed himself to stop the Black Spectre, seemingly dying in Moon Knight #30. In the wake of Spector's death, Hunter's Moon stepped forward to claim the mantle of Moon Knight, launching into this new role in Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 in January 2024. He continued the Midnight Mission, defending the supernaturally oriented figures discarded by society, joined by allies like Tigra, Reese, and Soldier.

During Marc Spector's absence, another character, Maximillian Coleridge, also known as the Shroud, emerged as a 'dark pretender' to the Moon Knight mantle. The Shroud donned an inverted, all-black Moon Knight suit and ran a more violent, misguided version of the Midnight Mission, actively undoing Marc's work. This created a period of contested legacy for the Moon Knight identity.

The period of replacement was temporary. Marc Spector did not remain dead for long, a common occurrence in comic book narratives. He was resurrected during Marvel's Blood Hunt crossover event in August 2024, returning with new powers. An inevitable confrontation between the original Moon Knight and the Shroud ensued in Vengeance of the Moon Knight #8, where Marc decisively defeated the pretender and reclaimed his rightful place as the Fist of Khonshu.

Following his resurrection and the reassertion of his identity, Marc Spector has continued his mission. In October 2025, Marvel announced a new ongoing series, Marc Spector: Moon Knight, which began in February 2026, with Jed MacKay continuing as writer. This series firmly re-established Marc Spector as the central Moon Knight. Hunter's Moon, Dr. Yehya Badr, remains an active and crucial ally within the Midnight Mission, appearing in issues of the new series, including Marc Spector: Moon Knight #4 (May 2026) and #7 (August 2026).

As of September 2026, the current status sees Marc Spector as the definitive Moon Knight, with Hunter's Moon serving as his trusted partner. The Midnight Mission continues its work, and the team, including Hunter's Moon, is set to play a significant role in the revival of the Midnight Sons, as confirmed by writer Jed MacKay for Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8, due out in September 2026.
