What Happened to Mica Acacia Miller?

Mica Acacia Miller, born on March 7, 1994, in Wichita, Kansas, became a prominent figure in the Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as the wife of Pastor John-Paul Miller and the church's creative director. Their marriage, which began in November 2017, was publicly portrayed as idyllic, but behind closed doors, it was marked by increasing turmoil and alleged coercive control.

The couple's marital issues became public in late 2023 when Mica first filed for divorce in October. Although this filing was dismissed in February 2024, a cycle of legal separations and dismissals followed. During this period, Mica expressed fears for her safety, reporting incidents such as razor blades placed in her tires and believing she was being followed, even telling a police officer she was 'afraid for her life' in March 2024. Her sister, Sierra, later stated in an affidavit that Mica had voiced fears of her husband, allegedly saying, 'If I end up with a bullet in my head, it was not by me, it was JP [John-Paul].'

On April 15, 2024, Mica filed for separation for the final time, and John-Paul was served with the papers on April 25, 2024. Two days later, on April 27, 2024, Mica Miller was found dead in Lumber River State Park, North Carolina, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage showed her purchasing a firearm and ammunition earlier that day, and she made a 911 call requesting her family be able to find her body before her death. The Robeson County Medical Examiner officially ruled her death a suicide on May 7, 2024.

Despite the official ruling, Mica's family and a significant public outcry questioned the circumstances surrounding her death, pointing to John-Paul Miller's alleged abusive behavior and control. The investigation intensified, leading to federal charges against John-Paul Miller. In December 2025, a federal grand jury indicted him on two counts: cyberstalking, alleging a pattern of harassment from November 2022 until Mica's death, and making false statements to federal investigators. The cyberstalking charge includes allegations of placing tracking devices on her vehicle, sending numerous messages, posting a nude photo online without consent, and interfering with her finances.

John-Paul Miller was arraigned on January 12, 2026, in federal court in Florence, South Carolina, where he pleaded not guilty to both charges. He was released on a $100,000 bond, required to wear an ankle monitor, and restricted from leaving South Carolina. As of August 26, 2026, John-Paul Miller's federal trial has been continued and is scheduled for October 2026. A new three-part Netflix docuseries, 'Death of the Pastor's Wife,' released in August 2026, further explores Mica's story and the ongoing case.
