What Happened to Northeastern University?

Northeastern University, founded in Boston in 1898, has solidified its reputation as a global leader in experiential learning, particularly through its renowned cooperative education program. This model, which integrates academic study with professional work experience, continues to be a primary draw for students, with 96% of 2024 graduates reportedly employed or in graduate school within nine months of commencement, and 93% in jobs related to their major.

The university has seen an unprecedented surge in applications and enrollment over the past decade. For the 2026-2027 academic year, Northeastern received a record 106,907 undergraduate applications, marking the seventh consecutive year of increase. This intense competition has driven the acceptance rate down significantly, reaching as low as 5.2% for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle, though it slightly rose to 5.6% for the 2025-2026 cycle.
