What Happened to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge?

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge was first announced by Disney CEO Robert Iger on August 15, 2015, as the largest single-land expansion in Disney's history, with an estimated cost of $1 billion for each of the two 14-acre lands. Construction began on April 14, 2016, aiming to create a deeply immersive experience on the never-before-seen planet of Batuu, specifically in the Black Spire Outpost. The Disneyland version opened on May 31, 2019, followed by Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29, 2019.

Upon opening, Galaxy's Edge was lauded for its unparalleled environmental storytelling, intricate details, and the commitment of cast members to their in-character roles, greeting guests with phrases like 'Bright Suns!'. The land's narrative was initially fixed between 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' and 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,' featuring characters from the sequel trilogy and new additions like Resistance spy Vi Moradi. The land will also begin playing John Williams' film scores, and some shops, like First Order Cargo, will be re-themed to Black Spire Surplus to align with the expanded timeline. Further enhancing the experience, a new mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, featuring characters from 'The Mandalorian' and Grogu, is scheduled to debut on May 22, 2026, coinciding with the theatrical release of 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' film.
