The legal drama "Suits" initially aired on USA Network from June 23, 2011, to September 25, 2019, spanning nine seasons and 134 episodes. It followed the story of talented college dropout Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) who, despite never attending law school, lands a job as an associate for top New York City lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) at the fictional Pearson Hardman firm. This streaming phenomenon led to "Suits" becoming the most-streamed TV show of 2023, accumulating an astounding 57.7 billion minutes of viewing across Netflix and Peacock, surpassing the previous record held by "The Office." This renewed interest was attributed to several factors, including its binge-worthy nature with many episodes, its appeal as a comfort watch during a period of heavy, high-concept shows, and the "Meghan Markle effect" for some viewers.

The unprecedented streaming success prompted NBCUniversal to capitalize on the renewed interest. In October 2023, original series creator Aaron Korsh announced he was developing a new companion series set in the "Suits" universe. This project, titled "Suits: L.A.", received a pilot order from NBC in February 2024 and was picked up to series in July 2024. The spin-off, starring Stephen Amell as former federal prosecutor Ted Black, was set in Los Angeles and featured a new cast, though it existed in the same universe, leaving the door open for potential cameos from original characters.

"Suits: L.A." premiered on February 23, 2025, on NBC. However, despite the strong legacy of the original series, the spin-off failed to capture the same audience enthusiasm and was canceled after just one season in May 2025. Stephen Amell, the lead actor, publicly took responsibility for the show's cancellation, acknowledging it "didn't work." This outcome suggested that the streaming success of the original "Suits" was not easily replicable through branding alone, but rather stemmed from the unique charm and character dynamics of the initial series.

As of April 2026, the original "Suits" continues to be available for streaming, notably on Peacock and Netflix in the United States until July 1, 2027. However, its availability on Netflix in over 20 international territories, including the UK, was phased out by December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026. Discussions about a potential proper reboot or movie featuring the original cast have been teased by actors like Patrick J. Adams, but no concrete plans have been announced following the cancellation of "Suits: L.A."
