Robinson's acerbic wit and the show's intense atmosphere quickly made it a global phenomenon, leading to its adaptation in over 100 countries.

The show's success led to an American adaptation, which debuted on NBC on April 16, 2001, also hosted by Anne Robinson. While the primetime NBC version concluded in July 2002, a syndicated half-hour version, hosted by George Gray, ran from 2002 to 2003. The original British run with Anne Robinson continued until March 31, 2012, marking 1,693 episodes, with Robinson stating she had served longer than intended. After three seasons on NBC, the show made a significant move to Fox in May 2025, rebranding as 'Celebrity Weakest Link' and focusing solely on celebrity contestants playing for charity.
