Ty Pennington, born Gary Tygert Burton on October 19, 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia, developed an early passion for woodworking and design. He later adopted his stepfather's surname, Pennington. After studying graphic design at the Art Institute of Atlanta, he worked as a carpenter and model, even contributing to set design for films like 'Leaving Las Vegas' in 1995.
