What Happened to Jamell Maurice Demons (YNW Melly)?

Jamell Maurice Demons, known professionally as YNW Melly, rose to prominence in the hip-hop world with his melodic rap style and hit songs like "Murder on My Mind" and "Mixed Personalities." His career, however, has been overshadowed by severe legal challenges. Demons was born on May 1, 1999, in Gifford, Florida, and began his music career at a young age, often drawing from his experiences with the law, including a juvenile detention sentence for a shooting incident in 2015.

The central legal battle for YNW Melly began on February 13, 2019, when he was arrested and charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege that in October 2018, Demons, along with co-defendant Cortlen Henry (YNW Bortlen), fatally shot Anthony Williams (YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy), both members of the YNW collective, and then staged the crime scene to appear as a drive-by shooting.

A bond hearing was held on April 30, 2026, where his attorneys argued for his release, proposing a monitoring plan, while prosecutors challenged the characterization of his living conditions.
